After reviewing several Shoal Creek desk options, I settled on the smaller version. Mind you its still a good sized desk when fully assembled. Its well made and you shouldn't have any problem putting it together- assuming you read all the instructions, inventory all the items for assembly and ensure no damage during delivery. The drawers were a little tricky to put together, so take your time. I strongly suggest you inventory and seperate the nuts, bolts etc it makes assembly much easier. (Note not all the items are labeled, so the pre inventory will help you identify the correct pieces from the pictures).

While my original review stated that the desk came with damage and the keyboard drawer didn't fit and essentially became decoration, I will say this of the company. They immediately contacted me about the damage and offered to replace it to ensure satisfaction. THAT is amazing customer service. I don't think of the 100s of things I've bought and reviewed on Amazon that I've ever had a response like that. I will say I'm definitely impressed and the desk is still a nice desk albeit the damage, but the company obviously strives to make sure it's customers are happy. You can't knock that!

First the bad news:
1. Expect some damage to some of the pieces because the desk is poorly packed. In my case, the desk top was damaged and one of the drawer fronts actually had the holes drilled for the handle in the wrong place!
2. Expect to spend at least 2 hours putting this desk together(this is how long it took me but if you're not really handy I can see it taking easily twice as long - there are lots of parts).
3. You will need a helper.
4. The desk is 100% particle board with a wood grain plastic veneer. You get what you pay for.
5. You will have to spend a fair amount of time adjusting the drawer slides in order to get them to line up - this was a pain.

Now the good news:

I was looking for a desk that looked great, had ample storage space, and a large writing surface. I got all of that when I put this together. It took about 5 hours because some of the pieces are not labeled, but it wasn't that hard to figure out what each piece was. After laying out all the pieces, I followed the directions and ended up with a beautifuld desk. I would recommend this to a friend.

Delivery was prompt. Item was unbroken and pieces were all there. A very sturdy, heavy and nice desk. It took me more than 2 hours to put it together. Also, there were few pieces that weren't labeled but it wasn't hard at all to see which piece was needed when looking at the diagram. Other than that.....No complaints!

Just the thing for apartments and condos and other places where space is limited. It's narrow enough to fit in tight spots, but with the hutch on top you don't lose a lot of storage space. The instructions are typical of "some assembly required"-style particle-board constructs. Of course, they are more detailed than, say, a bookshelf's, but that's to be expected. Total assembly took less than 5 hrs.

The shallowness may pose a problem for some. There is VERY limited desk space in front of the monitor (we have a flat screen). Don't plan on using this as anything but a place to hold your computer, printer, phone, and wireless router. In other words, it's a computer station, not a workstation. Also, you may want to measure the depth of your computer tower and compare with the dimensions listed in the product description. The cabinet door wouldn't quite close with our computer in there (we just left the door off, no big deal to us).

The desk is everything that we hoped it would be and more. The wood look and quality is great. The best part is that the instructions were easy to follow and accurate. It looks like fine furniture!
