I LOVE this desk! I spent a lot of time trying to find a new desk for my laptop, that could then also be used to replace my desktop computer's current desk. This is the one I picked. It's got lots of room and I love how it has both drawers and shelves. Like another reviewer, mine too came with a chipped top, which we didn't notice until we got to the point of installing the top (like page 23 of 27- or something like that- 3 hours later. . .). We'd accounted for all of the pieces before beginning construction, but didn't flip the top over due to lack of space (and the assumption it would be OK). HOWEVER, that said Sauder was more than happy to send out a new top immediately!! Their customer service was fantastic and, although I was disappointed I would have to wait, both the desk and the replacement top came much faster than estimated! I ordered the desk the day after Christmas and it was estimated I'd have it around Jan 6... I got it two days before New Year's!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad desk, but overpriced., September 23, 2011

The item is an average, walmart quality, desk but is definitely overpriced. The color was a little bit darker than want appears in the photo, but that wasn't a big deal for me.

My biggest fault with the product was putting the thing together. There seems like a 100 parts (more like 50) to attach together, and it comes all in one heavy box. Took me about 4 hours to complete, putting every screw in its right spot to finishing by putting the drawers together. The instruction manual does a great job describing the process, but there are some spots that may cause confusion and you may make reversals. lol

Overall, for the processed wood material and the amount of work putting the desk together does not justify the $230 that I spent for the desk. That's my only gripe.

3.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for . . . sometimes, August 12, 2011

The desk is made of manufactured wood, and it tends to damage easily. There was in fact some minor damage incurred during shipping when I opened the box. Although it appears to be a relatively simple project, absolutely nothing is preassembled. There is exactly the amount of hardware (screws, camscrews, etc.) needed . . . no extras. That can be a problem if anything is lost or damaged. In the course of assembly, two camscrews broke in half and one was damaged so it wouldn't lock. Neither Lowes nor Home Depot carried camscrews as small and flimsy as the ones needed for this project, and rather than wait five to seven days for a replacement, I drilled holes and used woodscrews to make those connections.
There is an illustration error on page 8, which shows an unfinished surface where the finished surface should be.
There are a LOT of screws, and a power screwdriver is recommended if like me you've arthritis in your hands. Putting together the drawers took a... Read more
